Specific IELTS Reading Tips
Many students feel, it is ‘Impossible’ to score high, but focus on the word and see ‘impossible’ itself show the way ‘I’m possible’. There is nothing which is out of the reach of mind. Mind has a power to achieve anything to any extent.
As an author of Books ‘Achievers 9 Bands’ I feel in high spirits to share my views with the aspirants who want to score far above the ground in IELTS.
At this juncture I am again sharing some useful things related to ‘READING’.
Both Academic and General type of Tests have these type of questions.
- Multiple Choices.
- Short Answer Questions.
- Sentence Completion.
- Completing notes, summary, table, flow charts.
- Choose Headings for Paragraphs or Sections of a Text.
- Matching Lists or phrases
- Identification of writers point of view in the form of Yes / No / Not Given or True / False / Not Given.
- Labeling Diagram
- Classifying Information.
Here are some useful tips that will bring a good harvest of bands to you
- Focus on the Instruction – Generally candidates ignore reading instructions as he/she is familiar with the type of questions. But, not reading the instructions provided in the question paper sometimes can lead to a wrong answer.
Example:
- Instruction
Use ‘Not more than three words’
Now if a student writes an answer ‘the two long bones’, the answer is incorrect as it contains four words.
- Instruction :
Choose one phrase (A – H)
Some reptiles use their tails:
- To catch prey.
- To balance
- To walk or run
The answer is ‘To balance’.
If a candidate writes the answer as ‘to balance’ which is a correct answer, you will lose the marks. It is not demanded as an answer in instructions.
- Learn what to underline: Usually, students underline most of the reading passage. Underline only the keywords or information related to question.
Example:
Match the people with their opinions
- Dr. Marline Moore
- Dr. Philip Sara
- Professor Bhutan Barner
- Davis Charles
The answer is ‘Davis Charles’.
Now in order to get the right answer, underline the names of the people and their opinion while reading the passage. It saves a lot of time.
So dear all, your understanding level will improve and on high before you take IELTS.
Stay connected and best wishes till we meet again.
