If you are planning to take higher education or seek professional registration in an English-speaking country, then you need to appear for the IELTS Academic test.

The IELTS academic test determines the candidate’s English language proficiency at an academic level. This test determines whether you are ready to study at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

The IELTS Academic test is divided into four parts, which are:

Writing:

The IELTS Academic writing test is also divided into two sub-sections, Writing test 1 and Writing test 2.

The response to Academic Writing Test 2 should be in an essay format.

Reading:

The Academic Reading test analyzes your reading ability and skills. It analyses how well you can read the ideas, opinions, etc. Your reading comprehension skills are tested, covering skimming, scanning, and reading for detail.

Academic Reading Test is made up of 3 long texts which are taken from current books, journals, and newspapers. The texts are related to subjects which you may encounter if you study at the undergraduate or postgraduate level or apply for professional registration in an English-speaking environment.

The reading test is 60 minutes long and is divided into three sections. Each section will have an academic reading of about 600 words and you will have to answer 40 questions in total.

Speaking:

The IELTS Speaking test is the same for both Academic and General Training tests. This test is designed to analyze your speaking skills. All speaking tests are conducted face-to-face with a certified IELTS examiner and are recorded in case they need to be reviewed.

The speaking test is 11 to 14 minutes long and is divided into three parts. In part 1, the examiner will ask some general questions such as about work, family, study, etc.

In part 2, will be given a card with a topic and you need to prepare your response on that topic and then you will have to speak on that topic for 2 minutes.

In part 3, you will have a two-way discussion with the examiner where they will ask questions related to the topic discussed in Part 2.

Listening:

The Listening test assesses your ability to understand the ideas, information, opinions, purpose, objectives, and perspectives of the speakers.

In the listening test, you need to listen to 4 recordings in your hearing test and will have to answer 40 questions based on these recordings. The first two recordings deal with circumstances that you can encounter on a daily basis. The last two recordings, on the other hand, focused on circumstances that could arise in the context of teaching or training.
