Let’s come to some specific skills to improve our scores. Today i will emphasise more on

How to attempt:

Yes / No / Not Given OR True/ False / Not Given

  1. There is always a main idea asked for in the question. Search that idea.

Example: Employees give importance to career path than money.

So here underlined part in the statement is the main idea.

  1. Identify the comparison or expression which is most important in the statement.

Example: Employees give importance to career path than money.

            So here underlined is expression.

  1. Find the main word or idea in the text. Then read in the passage to find the answer.
  1. If the phrase or the idea in the question is exactly opposite to the idea given in the text, the answer is No / False. [As asked in the question]
  1. If the main idea or the phrase of the question is not mentioned in the reading passage than the answer is NOT GIVEN.
  1. If the idea or phrase of the question is often clearly stated in the reading text also and the words are having a similar meaning then the answer is YES / TRUE. [As asked in the question]

Example: - 1

Write True/False/Not-Given for the following questions.

Staff selection is a key concern for almost all the companies in India. The firms which are willing to buy their employees loyalty have to give career opportunities rather money as most of the employees look for it.

Many companies are offering training programs focusing on improving skills for growth and development. Managers scrutinize jobs and focus on required staff to reduce unnecessary financial burden on the company.

Questions:

  1. Employees give importance to career path than money. -TRUE [Here the idea or phrase of the question is clearly stated in the reading text also and the words are having a similar meaning so the answer is TRUE. [True is written as per the question, we cannot write Yes.]
  1. Training programs for employees are suggested by Managers. -NOT GIVEN [Here the main idea or the phrase of the question is not mentioned in the reading passage so the answer is NOT GIVEN.
  1. Focus of training program is to generate money. –FALSE [Here the phrase or the idea in the question is exactly opposite to the idea given in the text, so the answer is False. [False is written as per the question, we cannot write No]

Example: - 2

Write Yes / No / Not-Given for the following questions.

For the past two decades, industry in most developed countries has relied on end-of-pipe pollution abatement as the main pollution control technique.

Question:

  1. End-of-pipe treatment is an ineffective way to control pollution.

Now see the main word in the question is ineffective but in the passage the word is main pollution, so, the answer is No. [As asked in the question, we cannot write False. If we write false, we will lose one mark]

Cleaner production techniques range from inside-the-factory changes in management, to shop-floor operations and processes, equipment and sometimes alterations in the products themselves. Cleaner production means adapting industrial processes to use raw materials and energy more efficiently, to eliminate toxic raw materials and to generally reduce emissions and wastes.

Questions:

  1. Cleaner industrial production is a very good way to control industrial pollution.

Here the answer is: Yes [For this answer, I have left the understanding part to you]

  1. Cleaner production if fully implemented will involve major management changes.

Here the answer is: Not Given [For this answer too, I have left the understanding part to you]

So dear all, I hope the concepts are quite clear to you but you need to practice more and more in order to perform the best in your upcoming test.
